Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, has reversed the decision of his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, by restoring the benefits of Celestine Omehia, who was deposed by the Supreme Court as governor of the state in 2007.
The supreme court had in October 2007, sacked Omehia on the grounds that he had not been the legitimate candidate of the governing People’s Democratic Party.

It ruled that the post should go to Rotimi Amaechi, who won the party’s primaries, but was dropped on the eve of voting because of graft allegations.
But Wike on Thursday, June 25, reinstated Omehia as a past governor of the state, stating that he governed the state between May 29, 2007 and October 25, 2007, The Nation reports.
“I hereby put back his official portrait among those of former governors. He is now entitled to the benefits of all former governors,” Wike said during the event at the government house in Port Harcourt.

Omehia in response thanked the governor for the honour, describing it as one of the most memorable days of his political career.
Since assuming office on May 29, Wike has reversed many decisions taken by the past administration. He has been accused by the All Progressives Congress of witch-hunting Amaechi
