Mysterious Man Terrified People In Anambra State And Attacked Civil Defence Corps Officers

A man, mistaken for Boko Haram terrorist, terrified people in Anambra state with his bag looking like an improvised explosive device, see what it actually was.

Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps cordoned off the area.

A suspicious man terrified people at Nkpor junction in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra state, near Onitsha. They thought the man carrying his bag was a Boko Haram militant with an improvised explosive device.

According to an eyewitness, on Tuesday evening a passer-by, who noticed a man carrying a bag full of six-inch nails, became uncomfortable with the stranger’s behaviour, alerting the personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps about possible impending terrorist attack.

The armed men quickly cordoned off the area while terrified inhabitants ran for cover. The news about the possible terrorist threat quickly spread the area, and local shop owners closed their venues and ran away from the scene.

The suspicious man confronted the officers, who tried to arrest him, and punched one of them. However, they eventually managed to overpower this man, but after searching his bag they didn’t find anything more than some nails and a lighter. A civil defence officer told the press that the suspect was arrested and whisked off for interrogation.

Anambrans remain on high alert of possible terrorist attacks due to the report of relocating the detained Boko Haram suspects from the north to Ekwulobia prisons in Anambra state. Since that people in the state fear possible retaliatory attacks from Boko Haram members.

Five days ago commercial activities in major Anambra markets were brought to a standstill after angry youths protested the alleged plan by the federal government to transfer suspected Boko Haram prisoners to Ekwulobia Prison in Aguata local government area of the state.

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state has responded fiercely to an alleged plan to relocate Boko Haram convicts to Anambra state prisons, describing the rumours as false and mischievous speculation.

However, the press investigation has revealed that 47 Boko Haram prisoners were brought to Ekwulobia at midnight on Sunday, June 28, under tight security.
