Obi Will Be Welcomed Back To APGA – Obiano

Anambra state governor, Willie Obiano has hinted at the weekend that the  All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) will welcome predecessor former Governor Peter Obi if he decides to return to the party.

The Sun reports that Obiano stated that his emergence as governor was through the roles played by governor and immediate past National Chairman of the party, Victor Umeh, saying the APGA was reaching out to old friends in an effort to make it stronger.

He made this remark at a thanksgiving service held to mark the successful end of Umeh’s tenure as national chairman of APGA at St. Patrick’s Catholic, Aguluezeigbo, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Obiano said: “We are on the right course; APGA is a moving train and no stopping us until we get to our destination. That destination is that as a people we have a platform; we must unite under APGA and build our party from the South East and position ourselves properly in the politics of Nigeria.

“As a party we are working hard to bring back our old friends to the party. Even former governor, Peter Obi, if he comes back, we’ll  accept him.”

“Obi and Umeh brought me into politics and it was through their efforts that I became governor. And we are saying it must be forward ever; we had a very  successful convention and we will continue to grow from strength to strength.”

Umeh, earlier in his speech, said that he was grateful to God for granting him the wisdom to successively complete his tenure as national chairman of APGA, recounting the several litigation he had to pass through over the years and praised his legal team led by Pat Ikweto (SAN) for its efforts in winning all the cases.

The former chairman regretted that the party lost some prominent members like former Governor Peter Obi and Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, but stating that the party has achieved some inroads  into other states outside the South East where it won some seats in the National and state assemblies.

It will be recalled that the former governor had defected from  APGA to the Peoples Democratic Party  last year after he served as two terms as governor on the platform of APGA. This defection follows persuasions by the then ruling party for Obi to join the party.
