PHOTOS: Naija 102 FM Stages Local Rappers Battle
The history of hiphop in Nigeria is not complete without the mention of local rap. Local rappers have increased over the years using their native dialect to deliver lovely rap lines.
With their increasing number, it is safe to say that local rap is the easy way out compared to the conventional hardcore punchline style.
Lagos based radio station, Naija Fm staged her first edition of Local Rap battle tagged Naija fm Shakabula Contest, a programme tailored to marry upcoming local rappers with the established ones. The hosts for the night were Naija Fm’s trio of Osam, Godwin Oruwayo and Ajebo.

The show witnessed live freestyles from these rappers without studio edit, auto-tunes and all. It was indeed a night of hard core undiluted indigenouss rap music as listeners from home participated via twitter to decide who impressed most.
Respected DJ Jimmy Jatt and other DJs were on hand to give the rappers beats they freestyled to.
The exciting moments also witnessed star performance from legendary indigenous rapper, Mr. Raw, who dished the Igbo rhymes he is known for.
Alaga Ibile, Reminisce could not make it down to the Naija Fm’s studio on that night but he did his own freestyle via the phone when he called during the programme; he was not in the state.
Other artistes that took part in the rap battle were, Falz The Bahd Guy, Obadice, Chukka, Eclipse Drizz and many more.
