Police In Delta State Apprehend Traditional Ruler Who Doubles As A Kidnapper
Police in Delta state in cooperation with local security group, Ubulu-Uku vigilance group, have apprehended three kidnappers including one community title leader following a raid on the alleged kidnappers den.
According to the Sun online, the groups raided the den at the weekend following the abduction of a 13-year old school girl in Ogwashi-Uku some two weeks ago and were able to rescue the school girl unhurt from the house of the alleged kingpin and community title holder simply identified as Chiedu.
The schoolgirl’s kidnap in Aniocha South Local Government Area reportedly angered the police and the Ubulu-Uku community vigilance group who immediately began searching for the girl.
A police source said the kidnapped girl was taken to the kingpin’s residence after her abduction where they demanded for N10 million ransom.
He said: “When the police got the information about the kidnap, they expanded their dragnet to other neighbouring towns and villages. During investigation, we got the wind that the girl was in Chiedu’s family compound in Ubulu-Uku. We rescued the girl who was in a pathetic condition. The young girl was bound arms and legs. She narrated how she was assaulted.

“Well, the kingpin escaped but we arrested three of the gang members in their hideout at Igbodo, a neighbouring town. We are still looking for three other gang members.
The girl’s rescue was well received and a spokesperson for the community called Okonji slammed the activities of the kidnappers.
He said: “We had not witnessed such an abomination in our community until the day the police rescued the little girl. We are happy today that the hoodlums that have brought shame to us have been identified.
“Now that we know them, we know what to do about them. Our joy is that the discovery and arrest will serve as deterrent to others. If the kidnappers had succeeded, they would have continued with their evil act.”
In a related development, one of the soldiers, who fled fighting Boko Haram in Borno state has been arrested in connection with criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and kidnapping.
The soldier identified as Emeka Joseph was caught by some air force personnel on duty at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) base check-point along Makurdi-Gboko highway in Benue State.
