Saraki’s Corruption Trial: Buhari Hailed
The issue of false declaration of assets put forward against the embattled Senate president, Bukola Saraki continues to yield more criticisms and support from fans and foes as a socio cultural organization in Edo state, Benin National Congress (BNC) came up to eulogise the president’s fight against corruption.
Muhammadu Buhari
According to Vanguard report, the group through its president, Aiyamenkhue Edokpolo, described Saraki’s corruption trial by the Code of Conduct Bureau as a signal of an era of uncompromising war against corruption.
Edokpolo stressed that if an APC stalwart could be charged to court on offences allegedly committed since 2003 that it clearly shows that public office holders should be careful and it is no longer business as usual.

Senator Saraki had been slammed with a 13-count charge by the CCB last week for giving a false declaration of his assets. This led to many other political and non-political groups calling for his resignation as the president of the Nigerian Senate.
The group’s president urged Nigerians to stop insinuating that the travails of the Senate president were politically motivated.
He said that Nigerians ought to look at the facts behind the charges leveled against Seraki.
He said: “When we continue to insinuate that it was politically motivated it will be difficult to fix the problem of corruption which was over the years perpetrated by the so called big men who have held this nation to ransom over the years.

“It is also an affirmation of President Buhari’s declaration that corrupt elements within the APC will not escape justice. We urge the EFCC and the ICPC to be proactive in investigating serving public office holders, especially those without immunity and not wait till they leave office were they may have muddled up the allegations.
“It is good that the Senate President is being given the opportunity to defend himself and that is how it should be, this is the end of the era of the untouchables. We all must encourage this government to do the right thing rather than discouraging them because if Nigeria fails, it is we the poor masses that will suffer not Buhari or those who have participated in the looting of this nation.”
Contrary to the group’s submission, Chukwuemeka Ezeife, a former governor of Anambra state vehemently condemned the trial of Senate president insisting that the trial is politically motivated.
Furthermore, there had been a report quoting a ranking senator who chose to be anonymous that some top chieftains of the All Progressives Congress have already hatched the plot to ensure that Saraki is ousted soon by offering some of the senators $50,000 to impeach the Senate president.
But the Kwara state chapter of the party had promptly reprimanded the spokesman of the party in Lagos state, Joe Igbokwe over his statement on the fact that Saraki deserves no pity.
