Unpaid Salary: Kwara Assembly Approves 5bn For Workers Settlement
The Kwara House of Assembly has approved the request of the state governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed to obtain N5 billion from CBN through ECA secured concessionary loan from Sterling Bank.
The loan was requested to offset backlog salaries owed workers of the state-owned tertiary institution who have embarked on an indefinite strike.
According to Leadership, the approval was sequel to a message sent by Governor Ahmed and was read the Speaker of the Assembly, Dr Ali Ahmad on the floor of the Assembly.

The workers bon Monday, October 19, had commenced strike action to address their displeasure over non-payment of their salaries. The state government owes the affected workers five months’ salary.
The statement government had earlier stated that it has not received any bailout fund for the payments of salaries of local government and teachers.
Making more clarification on the loan, the permanent secretary of Ministry of Finance, Benjamin Fatigun, told the Assembly that though the state government had applied for the loan but up to now the N5 billion bailout funds has not been released by CBN.

In a related development, Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state had been asked to make payment of the state workers without further delay from the bailout fund released by the federal government.
This demand was by publicity secreatray of the All Progressives Congress in the state, Taiwo Olatunbosun, where he accused the governor of refusal to explain to the people of the state what he did with the fund.
He stated that the Fayose had failed to explain to the workers how he managed the bailout fund under his care which was released by the federal government with the intention of settling workers’ entitlements.
