Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha has slashed the number of ministries in the state from 22 to 13.

The governor, disclosed this after a meeting with all the permanent secretaries at the Government House in Owerri, the Imo state capital.

Okorocha speaking through Calistus Ekenze, the state’s head of service, said that the new development in the state civil service was part of the plans to restructure the civil service and make it more efficient.

He further said that due to the dwindling revenue allocation, the state government needs to cut down on the cost of governance and look inwards in order to increase the internally generated revenue of the state.

In a related development, President Muhammadu Buhari has successfully slashed the federal ministries to 25 from 29 before the ministerial inauguration for the 36 ministers.

The ministries of police affairs, aviation and special duties appear to have been scrapped while ministries of Lands, Housing, Urban Development and Works have been merged to become Ministry of Works and Housing.

The information, culture, national orientation and tourism ministries have been collapsed into one Ministry of Information and Culture while the Ministries of Sports as well as Youth Development have also been merged to form the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development.
