In Delta: Choir master drops dead while leading choristers

A choir master died suddenly while leading the choristers at a night vigil in a church in Delta State

A National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, member reportedly collapsed while leading his choir group.

29-year-old Excellent Okpako Akevwighome lost his life suddenly at Christ Gospel Church, in Edjeketa community, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State.

Vanguard reported that the graduate of Accountancy from Anwai campus of the Delta State University arrived at the church for a night vigil. He reportedly slumped and died almost immediately midway into the vigil while leading the choristers in a song.

Eyewitnesses report revealed that when he collapsed while leading the choir, fellow church members assumed he must have been taken over by the Holy Ghost, so he was left alone. Eventually, 20 minutes later, a few choristers tried to help him up, only to realise that he was unresponsive.

Pastor of the church, lamented the young man's death, saying, “the brother was a faithful worshipper but lost his life to the cold hand of death even in the church.”

His younger brother, Mr Godday Akevwighome, said the victim was serving in Anambra state as at the time of his untimely death.
