Brig General Paul Boroh (Rtd), the special adviser to the President on Niger Delta and coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, has disclosed that the programme is making immense contributions to human capital development in the region.

Speaking while receiving the official report of the graduation of 51 beneficiaries of the Presidential Amnesty Programme  from the  Novena University, Boroh commended the exemplary conduct of the  students whom he said were exemplary ambassadors of the Amnesty programme.

He was also full of praise for the Federal Government whom he said funded the entire programme.

General Boroh  added that with the timely graduation of the 51 beneficiaries, the programme will be saving for the Government, a total of N76,500,000 annually, which was being paid annually for tuition and training allowances.

He said the graduation also fitted perfectly into the Amnesty Exit Strategic Plan (AESP) of the programme.

Seven of the 51 beneficiaries graduated in  second class upper division. Two of the seven had upper class in Intelligence and Security Studies, two in Political Science, and one each in Energy and Petroleum Studies, Accounting and Computer Science.

Thirty-one graduated in second class lower division, 10 had third class, one  had a pass degree while two could not satisfy requirements.

Most of the ex-militants graduated in departments of Microbiology,  Biochemistry, Mass Communication, Business Administration and International Relations.

The amnesty programme is aimed at ridding the Niger-Delta of militants which for too long have plagued the region. It would be recalled that 1,500 Niger Delta militants on Sunday, February 14, expressed their desire to surrender to the federal government by embracing the amnesty programme.
