– Abia state governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu yesterday, April 2, visited the Malkohi Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Adamawa state

– The governor was in the state for the wedding of the Adamawa state governor’s son 

– Dr Ikpeazu schooled at the University of Maidugiri and used to be a regular visitor to Adamawa state during his undergraduate days 

During his visit to the camp, Dr Ikpeazu promised to contribute to the upkeep of the IDPs, some of whom are of South East origin.

The Malkohi IDP centre in Adamawa state accommodates displaced persons from Borno state who fled attacks by Islamist group, Boko Haram.

In a chat with newsmen after the brief visit, the governor said: ”I am in Adamawa State to felicitate with my colleague, Governor Bindo whose son is getting married.

“As someone who went to Borno State at the age of 16 as an undergraduate, I understand what Maiduguri and Borno state used to be and what it has become now, owing to the terrorist activities of Boko Haram.

“When I was told that some displaced persons from Borno State are kept here in Malkohi IDP Centre, I decided to come to see them.”

The governor described the Boko Haram attacks as “needless insurgency and acts of terrorism that have rendered Nigerians homeless in their own country”.

He however expressed confidence that Nigerian security agencies will fully restore peace and stability to the affected areas.

Dr Ikpeazu was recently in the news for his bold decision to boycott eating of foreign rice.

The governor, it was gathered, has refused to take foreign rice in the last six months as he has reportedly struck it out of his menu.

His reason is that he wants to demonstrate to everyone that Nigeria, with her rich agricultural potentials, has the capacity to fend for itself in food production.
