In the words of the Rivers state governor, he said:
“Assuming though not conceding that there was a court order that there should not be election for the chairmanship position, the man that you said went to court (acting national Chairman of the party) is participating in the election.
“It tells you he did not file any court process. We will do the election and know the next step to take. Since the chairman of the party they said went to court for an order that there should not be election is participating in the election what are we saying. Then when a party takes timeous step , that party cant be said to be disobeying court order. We filed a motion for stay of execution and filed an appeal.”
Wike explained that the party got a court injunction regarding any court ruling that could challenge the ‘locus standi’ of the party’s convention, as the PDP also got an appeal regarding the same election.
The governor added that the prompt action taken by the PDP revealed that the party upholds the rule of law, with its resolve to move on with the national convention, concluding that due to the legality of the party’s convention, 12 governors of the party were already in Port Harcourt because of the election.
