Joey's Monday Musings: Tiwa Savage’s next single should sound like this...

You see, everyone gained from it, now let Tiwa make her money from  it too. It’s only fair. When the dust settles, and the eyes are dried. The hair is made, and the makeup is worn. When the eyebrows are on fleek, and the smile is on point, then it will be time to hit the studio.

So Tiwa’s tale is a sad one. One filled with mental torture, drug abuse, chronic unhappiness and wanton excesses. All of these has landed on the doorstep of her happiness, forcing her to react in the most candid way possible. In fact, that candor, was the only way possible.

Tiwa has lost a husband via behavioural and lifestyle differences, but there’s a silver lining, sorry, two silver linings. One is the little Jamil, her first child, who is unfortunately, the fella caught up in this episode. He is yet to fully grasp perception of how his circumstances have been greatly altered, with ‘Dada’, no longer a partner to ‘Mama’.  But he remains with Tiwa Savage, as an outlet for her to release her love, and be responsible for. This in itself gladdens many hearts. All of her resources will be channeled at his upbringing, with no bad debt weighing them down.

The second light shining through this cloud comes from the most commercial of place – The Studio. Tiwa Savage has to benefit from all of these. Many will hold their noses afar off, and spit on the idea of benefitting from your sorrow, but it’s already being done. All the media houses who fed you this situation, kept you up to speed with events, reported every cough from a D-List celebrity about the situation, and created various angles of thought, did what they did, not out of the goodness of their hearts. They commoditized the news, split it into various quantities and sold it out to the masses in bits and pieces. ‘Go along, read the news, beef is only good for the paper,’ they said in their hearts.

You the masses did benefit also. How many conversations have you opened up with wondrous delight about the Tiwa episode? How many of you have gained socially because you armed yourself with this gist, and worked your way into the heart of another person? And also, how many couples have drawn closer to themselves in love, not wanting to be a version of the poisoned marriage that Tiwa had?

You see, everyone gained from it, now let Tiwa make her money from  it too. It’s only fair. When the dust settles, and the eyes are dried. The hair is made, and the makeup is worn. When the eyebrows are on fleek, and the smile is on point, then it will be time to hit the studio. Don Jazzy, should orchestrate the music from behind the console. A big man with a big name, the Mavin Boss received a bit of the mess when he was accused of engaging in clandestine activity with his signed act. Well, he has a personal interest in this, so the song has to come from his inexhaustible fountain of hits. No protégé or colleague should have dibs on this record. Altims and Babyfresh can take time off for this to happen. Only Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage and Dr Sid should be a part of this.

A good melody should be drawn from Fela’s Afrobeat. Slow, jingly, immersive, and percussive. The should optimally be at the mid-point, where we can hear her sing, and still be able to dance to the end product. Heck, why can’t we all further benefit from this in the clubs?

Then Tiwa should let loose. Go spiritual first, praise ‘Baba God’ for his mercies and compassion, and then switch it up with little bits of how she came out triumphant, before throwing in one or two motivational quips for the women. She’s an icon after all, and so they would need more majestic and beneficial encouragement. Something for them to hold on to in their time of strife. Halleluyah somebody!

Naming the single should be indirect. Nothing to point fingers at her sad ordeal. Let her use ‘Super Woman’, ‘Doro Diva’, Strong Girl’, ‘Mercies’, ‘Winner’, ‘Survivor’, and many others.

What matters in the end is for her to not only creatively express and document her woes and victories through music, but also to make money while at it. She’s a business woman through and through, and who know, she just might still be shouldering a N45 million debt.
