– Forty-one hostages and properties were recovered from Boko Haram militants

No fewer than 15 Boko Haram militants were killed by the Nigerian troops on Tuesday, May 17, inside the notorious Sambisa forest in Borno.

According to Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, the acting director army public relations, the encounter happened on Tuesday while the Nigerian soldiers were on a mission to clear the group’s camps at Njimia and Alafa.

Usman also added in the e-mail that forty-one people held hostage by Boko Haram were also freed by the army. Most of the hostages were said to be women and children.

He said the mission was in continuation with the special clearance and rescue operations otherwise known as Operation crackdown being carried out within the Sambisa forest by troops of 7 Division.

The army spokesman added that earlier in the morning on the same day, the troops cleared Boko Haram terrorists camps at Alafa, where they encountered heavy resistance from Boko Haram terrorists.

“The troops continued their advance through Alafa Main, Alafa Extension and Alafa Yaga-yaga, where they cleared remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists hibernating there before arriving at their main objective, Njimia,” the e-mail added.

It was gathered that apart from destroying the camps, the troops also recovered 2 Dane Guns, several vehicles, motorcycles and bicycles belonging to the terrorists.

The operation was said to be carried out through the combination of ground forces assault, Nigerian Air Force Jets provision for combat air support and monitoring of the operation directly by the Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Brigadier General Victor Ezugwu on board Air Force reconnaissance aircraft.

No casualty was recorded by own troops through the conduct of this operation, the message stated.

This report comes after the Nigerian army said at least five soldiers were wounded in action following an attack by Boko haram terrorists on Saturday, May 14.  NAIJ.com gathered that although the troops repelled the attack, about five of their men had sustained various degrees of injuries by the terror group.
