Controversy: 89 percent of people appointed by Buhari are all corrupt – Nigerians react

Lt General Tukur Buratai the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) seems to be entangled in a web of controversies with regards to the ownership of multi million dollar properties both in Nigeria and UAE.

Investigations recently showed that Lt Gen Buratai bought a second exotic property in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, days after his appointment as Nigeria’s chief of army staff (COAS).

About a week ago there were reports that the COAS and his two wives in 2013, paid the sum of 1,498,534.00 AED (N120 million/$419,000) for the first property, Project TFG Marina Hotel Unit 2711, with Sale documents showing the first property was given to the Buratais on January 13, 2013.

On July 13, 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Buratai on as the new COAS. SaharaReporters gathered that in the first 11 days of his appointment, Buratai made arrangements to buy a second property from the same company in Dubai. And that between July 24 and August 17, 2015, he paid a total sum of N42.2 million into TFG Sigma 111’s account in Nigeria (Skye Bank 1770380452).

Sahara Reporters reportedly got an evidence which revealed that the chief of army staff made N10 million payments on July 24 and August 7 concurrently.

Nigerians have reacted to the developments regarding Buratai’s assets, below are their views on the issue.

Idiku Sunday said: “What are Nigerians saying to this corrupt officer, infact 89 percent of people appointed by Buhari are all corrupt this should call for the release of Dasuki Sambo with immediate effect, infact the COAS have committed a lot of genocide since he became the COAS, he should jailed.”

Obinwa Chiemerie said: “Something is sure wrong with Nigerian leaders. They have all this money and properties to their name yet people at their back yards suffer. I didn’t know that money can cripple and make a person blind.”

Anselm Okeke was of the opinion that EFCC is only after the opposition and not for good and innocent guys in APC. Adding sarcastically “if am lying ask SGF or lair Muhammad”.

Ray Osita said: “Oh God!,where do we go from here?. The country is the hands of corrupt people, masquerading as leaders & heading vital sectors of our security, economy, politics, & legislature.”

Bringing a twist and a bit of controversy to the issue, Johnson Chukwudi Johnson said “Change has come. Those that worked with GEJ are crooks while Buhari,s own are saints”.

Chinedu Etu Okpara said: “Buhari should apologize to David Cameron because I believe when he said Nigeria is fantastically corrupt he know the indepth of how corrupt our leaders are….what is playing out now on Buratai is a minute of such evidences which we didn’t want to hear from him rather we all were abusing scorning and insulting him….and thats the different between a white man and the black ( if they don’t have evidence they don’t accuse).”

Immaculate Osimach said: “Now we can see the change apc govt is talking about, since it has been burutai for one month now. The EFCC and DSS have become deaf and dumb, if it was a PDP member or ex minister by now he would have been spending his 2nd week in detention. This is political oppositional witch hunting.”

Meanwhile, Lt General Tukur Buratai, Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, has been cleared of any wrong doing with regards to owning assets outside the country.

According to PR Nigeria, the federal government has concluded investigations on the top military officer and he has been vindicated as his assets and military acquisitions are being shown to be based on capital market principles of shareholding.

The report stated that the capital market principle that governed the properties in issue is similar to having shares in companies instead of full ownership. And after the necessary investigations have been carried out, the federal government has made bold to say that the ownership of the properties was based on being investors as shareholders just like those mentioned in the matter.
