Mourinho reacts to Pogba’s ban

– Mourinho reveals he got to know about Paul Pogba’s ban only after the midfielder signed for Manchester United

– The Manchester United manager says Pogba will be back for his team’s next game against Southampton

Manchester United fans will have to wait a little longer to watch world record signing Paul Pogba make his return to the English Premier League.

This follows an announcement by the English FA, that the midfielder will miss the season opener alongside club teammate Chris Smalling, Tottenham’s Moussa Dembele and Robert Huth of Leicester City.

The 23-year-old’s two bookings in last season’s Coppa Italia, in the win over Inter in March and the final against AC Milan in his final outing for Juventus, has been transferred across to England.

Surprisingly Pogba’s new manager, Jose Mourinho wasn’t even aware of the midfielder’s ban until he signed for Manchester United.

Speaking to the media ahead of the club’s Premier League opener, Mourinho confirmed that the France international will miss the clash with Bournemouth, due to a booking in the Coppa Italia final last season.

But the Portuguese only found out after Pogba put pen to paper.

“I found out two days ago.

“I knew the situation with the yellow cards but I didn’t know if an accumulation would bring a suspension,” he said.

Nevertheless, the Portuguese has confirmed that the France international star will be able to make his debut at Old Trafford in the Red Devils’ second match of the campaign.

“By Tuesday he will be ready to play against Southampton,” the ex-Real Madrid and Chelsea boss said, looking forward to the fixture, which actually takes place on Friday.

Man United signed Paul Pogba from Juventus in a deal worth 105m euros, plus performance-related bonuses and other costs.

Although Man United are yet to agree personal terms with Pogba, it looks more like formality should he pass his medical.

Pogba’s return to Man United surpasses Wales forward Gareth Bale’s £85m move to Real Madrid in 2013 as the biggest transfer deal in history.

He is Mourinho’s fourth signing at United, after Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly, former Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Armenia forward Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

He won four Serie A titles for Juventus in his stay at the club.
