Her time was not good enough to get her into the finals as one of the fastest losers.

Meanwhile, Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson, 24, stunned fans to race to gold in the women’s 100m finals, clocking an impressive time of 10.71seconds to dash teammate Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s dream of becoming the first ever woman to win three consecutive 100m titles at the Olympics.

Fraser-Pryce, 29, finished third in 10.86, while USA’s Tori Bowie won the silver medal in 10.83.

Thompson said: “When I crossed the line and glanced across to see I was clear, I didn’t know how to celebrate.”

Fraser-Pryce said: “What I’m most happy about is the 100m title is staying in Jamaica. I’m on the podium with my training partner. I’m proud of Jamaica.”

Blessing Okagbare, who won gold in the 100m and 200m at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 will now shift her attention to the women’s sprint double and 4x100m relay, as well as long jump.
