FG urged to compensate Cross River over Bakassi Peninsula
By Jimitota Onoyume
PORT HARCOURT—THE Federal Government has been urged to compensate Cross River State for ceding Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon.
President, Rights Monitoring Group, RMG, Mr Olufemi Aduwo made the appeal in a statement, stressing that the state should be compensated for losing the rich peninsula.
He advised the Federal Government to consider the option of raising loan from the World Bank to fix the economic challenges in the country instead of selling national assets.
He also dismissed as untrue, allegation that the governor of Cross River State, Professor Ben Ayade falsified his age.
He said they conducted an independent investigation into the issue and realised that the allegation was not true.
“We took it upon ourselves to investigate the allegation of age falsification levelled against Professor Ayade, the governor of Cross River State and we discovered there is no iota of truth in the entire allegation.
“We call on all discerning Nigerians to disregard the blind lies being perpetrated against the governor by a cabal which is desperate to unseat the governor for selfish reasons,” he said.
