ENUGU—Police authorities in Enugu State, yesterday, began investigations into the cause of the fire outbreak which razed one storey building at Ogige Main Market by Slaughter Road, Nsukka.
The inferno, which started at 2.30a.m., engulfed the four flats in the building, including lock-up stores.
Vanguard learned that a resident, Asueze Reginald, sustained severe burns in the fire, which lasted for about four hours, and was rushed to Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka.
Meanwhile, the Enugu Police Command, has arrested two notorious armed robbery suspects that have been terrorising members of the public, particularly residents of Achara Layout axis of Uwani Enugu.
The suspects, identified as Obumneme Nwafor, and Emeka Oparaugo, a.k.a. Crossover, both from Amechi, Awkunanaw, were nabbed by operatives who promptly swung into action following a distress call received that suspects, and their cohorts now at large, were operating at a certain shop on Awkunanaw Street, Achara Layout, Enugu.
Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed both incidents in a statement, adding “it took the intervention of the combined efforts of Fire Service, individuals and some security operatives before the fire was extinguished at 4.06a.m.
“The inferno caused destruction of property which value is yet-to-be estimated.
“The robbery suspects had engaged the operatives in a gun battle, which resulted in the arrest of Obumneme Nwafor, who already had been hit by bullets.
“His arrest, however, promptly guided the operatives in the arrest of Emeka Oparaugo alias, Crossover while manhunt is on for the fleeing members of the gang.”
