David Mark feels your pain, goes after electricity operators… for you
by James Sambo
Senate President, David Mark, is showing some empathy to the plight of Nigerians suffering the epileptic electricity supply in the country.
On Friday, Mark lamented the fact that the promises made by investors in the wake of the privatisation of the sector, was yet to be fulfilled.
He bemoaned the prevalent poor supply of electrical power in most parts of Nigeria.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Paul Mumeh, while hosting the management team of the Electricity Management Services Limited in Abuja, Mark said: “In spite of the high expectations and promises on account of the privatisation of the power sector, Nigerians have yet to feel the positive impact of the sector.”
Mark also enjoined power industry operators to provide the expected benefits of privatisation in order to enable Nigerians enjoy un-interrupted power supply.
Furthermore, he stated that the snail-like progress of development in the power sector does not give credence to the privatisation exercise and the expectations of Nigerians.
The Senate President added that the operators should ‘take the bull by the horn’ by manufacturing electrical tools instead of overt-reliance on importation.
