Enugu lawmakers move to impeach Governor Chime
by Ranti Joseph
The latest impeachment casualty is the Enugu state governor, Sullivan Chime as lawmakers in the state have commenced impeachment proceedings against him over allegations of corruption and misconduct.
Fourteen lawmakers, led by the speaker, Eugene Odo, met early on Monday, May 4, and instructed the clerk of the assembly to dispatch an impeachment notice to Chime.
Chime and the lawmakers are at war over his attempt to secure legislative approval for a N11 billion loan, just weeks before he leaves of the governor.
The eight members met the governor late Sunday, and attempted to approve the governor’s request.
The 8-member group later claimed to have impeached Odo as speaker.
The Odo-led members however suspended Oji before moving a motion to impeach Chime.
