Supreme Court halts constitutional amendment

The Supreme Court has ordered the National Assembly to desist from its efforts to amend the ‎1999 constitution.
A seven-man panel of justices of the apex court, led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, ‎Justice Mahmud Mohammed, issued a ruling on the matter this morning, Thursday, May 7.
The apex court instructed the National Assembly to maintain take no action on the matter until June 18.
The National Assembly was also mandated to appear on that date to respond to the suit which was lodged by President Goodluck Jonathan against the proposed move to alter the constitution.
