Gunmen Kidnap Catholic Priest In Ekiti State
The kidnappings in Ekiti state does not seem to cease as another case of kidnap has been reported. Daily Trust informs that gunmen kidnapped Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Akingbade, a catholic priest in Ido-Ekiti, on Tuesday night between 7.30 and 8pm.
It was reported that three man armed with guns stormed the residence of the cleric, who is a lawyer, Parish Priest of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Ido Ekiti and the Assistant Director, Justice, Development and Peace Initiative (JDPI) of the church in the diocese.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Etop John James, had been informed says Bishop of the diocese, Most Rev. Felix Ajakaye, who said gunmen who invaded the priest’s residence threatened a resident of the clergyman’s house with a gun pointed to the head.
The occupant led the men to the priest’s room where he was taken to an unknown destination.

The bishop added that the kidnappers moved the clergyman’s computer laptop, undisclosed amount of money and handset. He described the abduction as “very sad and devastating”.
He said, “They told the priest that some amount of money had been paid on his life except if he could pay them N20 million.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Alberto Adeyemi commented on the kidnap saying: “We are aware of it and we are following it up. The DPO in Ido informed the command about the incident and we are trying our best to get him released.”
Meanwhile, Governor of Ekiti state has reassured the people of Ekiti state that his administration will ensure the recent spate of kidnappings in the state is curbed.
Fayose was speaking to staff of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti and talked of the kidnappings which have been affecting the state for the past one month.
