The number of aides and journalist to accompany President Muhammudu Buhari on his foreign and local trips has been slashed, Premium Times reports.

In a memo circulated around the Presidential Villa on Monday, Buhari reduced the number of journalist to accompany him from four to two however it is unclear how the president reduced the security and protocolofficials.

This comes against the backdrop of Buhari’s promise to rum a clean and conservative government unlike his predecessor , Goodluck Jonathan who was renowned for travelling with a large entourage.

Two weeks ago reports emerged that Buhari had asked the National Assembly to give him the go-ahead to appoint 15 advisers, as against 18 advisers employed by Jonathan.

A source close to Premium Times told the medium that the memo had been sent to relevant authorities in the presidential villa to keep them abreast with the development.

He said: “The security may have between three and four slots, rotated between the old and new officers, there may be other slots for the senior security officers, but I know the media has two slots for journalists and two for media officers (those who carry the podium and the information officer).”

Earlier today, Buhari said that Nigeria’s “treasury is virtually empty” and lamented that workers across the country were owed backlog of salaries.

On Sunday, Buhari and his vice, Yemi Osinbajo, finally moved to Aso Rock, after living in the defense headquarters  for three weeks.
