Terrorism Case: Senate Leader Gets Courts Nod To Travel

Senate Leader, Ali Ndume who has been facing prosecution for alleged sponsorship of terrorist group, has been granted permission by an Abuja High Court to travel for lesser Hajj.

This was permission was  granted by Justice Gabriel Kolawole, in his ruling on Ndume’s application for leave to embark on the trip. He ordered the Deputy Chief Registrar(DCR), litigation, of  the Federal High Court to released Ndume’s travel documents.

‎Ndume, a Borno State senator,  had deposited his passport and other travel documents  to the court registry as part of  his bail conditions in December,2013. He was charged for sponsoring Boko Haram activities.

He was however told by Justice Kolawole to return the travel documents to the DCR(Ligitation) within 72 hours of his return into the country.

Ndume application was not oppose by the prosecuting counsel, Muslim Hassan when his counsel, R. Okotie-Eboh moved for it on Tuesday’s proceedings.

‎“Since it will not affect the date that has already been fixed for continuation of trial, we feel it is unnecessary to oppose the application,” Hassan told the court.

It was on this premise, that the Judge granted the decision since the prosecuting counsel did not object the Ndume’s request.

‎The trial will continue on July 2 when the prosecution is expected to call its fourth witness.

 

It will be recalled that Senator Ali ‎Ndume was arraigned on four counts of terrorism after he was implicated by a suspected member of the violent sect, Ali Konduga, who had since been convicted and sentenced for terrorism charge‎.
