Four Dead, Many Injured As Youths In Akwa Ibom Protest Over Unpaid Salaries
Four people have reportedly died and several others injured following a violent protest by youths at Ebughu community in Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state over unpaid salaries.
ASP Cordelia Nwawe, the police public relations officer of the state, said the situation was put under control by the police, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
It was gathered that some youths had misunderstandings with Pisco Company, an oil tank farm in the area, after demanding the payment of their salaries from the company on Saturday, August 8.
Nwawe described the incident as unfortunate, and that normalcy had returned to the area following the deployment of security operatives.
Nwawe also promised that police officers in the state would continue to ensure quick response to security issues in order to forestall breach of peace in the area.

A youth in the area, identified as Asuquo Okon, said the problem started when the youths demanded for their salaries from the company on July 8.
He said: “The incident started when the workers demanded for their salaries and they seize the speed boat from the company. The youths said they won’t release the speed boat until the company paid them their salaries and violence started.”
Meanwhile youths under the aegis of Youth Alliance for Better Nigeria (YABN) in Agege area of Lagos state, on Monday, August 10, staged a peaceful protest at the Lagos House in Alausa area of the state over epileptic power supply, crazy bills and prepaid metres.
