Imoke Advises Youths Against Taking Politics As A Career

Former governor of Cross River state, Liyel Imoke, has advised Nigerian youths against taking politics as a future career.

Imoke, who spent eight years as governor of Cross River said that politics as profession would not offer the youths the needed technical skill needed for survival after leaving office.

Daily Trust reported that the former governor gave this counsel at this year’s Career Day organised by the Bridge Leadership Foundation which was founded by him in 2011. The objective of the foundation is aimed at grooming youths and graduates for entrepreneurial skills.

He called on the youths to be self-reliant and to learn how to create jobs rather than waiting on white collar jobs that are scarce to come by.

Imoke said: “There is a preponderance of people wanting to be politicians not because of public service, but because there are temporal job opportunities in politics.”

He added that most politicians go broke after leaving office, adding that: “Politics is good if you really have commitment to service, but, I doubt that many who invested time and energy in it survive better after office.”
