Interesting! Governor Approves 3 Weeks Paternity Leave For Husbands, READ Why
Governor Ifeanyi Uguwanyi has put smiles on the faces of expecting fathers in Enugu state.
This follows the amendment of the civil service rules which now allows three week paternity leave to husbands who are civil servants and whose wives put to bed.
Before now, male civil servants were not entitled to any leave while the female workers and nursing mothers were entitled to three months maternity.
However, following the change made in the rule, nursing mothers will now enjoy six months maternity leave and interestingly, husbands whose wives might put to bed have been given a paternity leave but it would only be for just three weeks.

The paternity leave was meant to give such husbands the opportunity to support their nursing wives, according to the state government, The Punch reports.
This was disclosed by Dr. Sam Ngwu, Enugu state commissioner for health, who said the new policy, is aimed “to strengthen the family as a social unit and also promote mother and child welfare.”
While unveiling plans to mark this year’s Breast Feeding Week in the state, Ngwu explained that the extension of the maternity leave would encourage nursing mothers in the state to engage in the internationally recommended four to six months exclusive breast feeding of newborn babies.
This new development comes weeks after the governor announced the portfolios of 24 state commissioners and 10 special advisers recently sworn in.
