President Buhari Gives Ex-militants Of Niger-Delta Hope – Ijaw Leader

Regent Youmor, an Ijaw leader said that President Muhammadu Buhari has given hope to the ex-militants of Niger-Delta region.

Youmor praised the appointment of retired Brig.-Gen. Paul Boroh, adding that it will ease the payment of fees of ex-militants schooling abroad.

The adviser of the Ijaw National Congress, Lagos chapter, told this to the newmen, also said the appointment will guarantee quick return of those students to their schools.

It would be recalled that President Buhari appointed Boroh as the coordinator of the amnesty programme to replace Kingsley Kuku, the special adviser to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan on July 28.

Youmor said that over 3,000 recipients of the programme had been evicted from their different institutions abroad due to non-payment of the fees.

 “In fact, by next week, the students will be going back to their schools; and the issue of non-payment of amnesty programme staff that were not paid, he is addressing that also,” he said.

The Ijaw leader added that the appointment of Boroh had brought calm to the restless youth in the Niger-Delta.

“This is one appointment that Ijaw people are very happy about; a replacement of the former presidential adviser with another patriot,’’ Youmor said.

He advised the recipients of the amnesty programme to continue to provide peace in the region.

“My advice to beneficiaries of amnesty programme is that they should maintain peace.

“We are in a democratic dispensation; we have rules governing our behaviour, so, I enjoin you to maintain law and order to have a smooth sustenance of the amnesty programme.

“This is because if you disrupt peace of the area, the programme will be scuttled.

“So, your peaceful conduct, obedience and loyalty to the government will guarantee continuity of the amnesty programme,” Youmor concluded.
