SAD: Read How Tragedy Befell Okada Rider, Passenger

A yet to be identified woman and a commercial motorcyclist, popularly called okada, are writhing in  pains following a fire incident on Tuesday, August 11.

It was learnt that the woman was conveying a gallon of petrol stacked in a polythene bag on a motorcycle but the motorcycle rider collided with another motorcycle, in the process, the content spilled on the road and caught fire.

Following the collision, the two motorcycles burst into flames, the incident could have resulted in a disaster but for the quick intervention of residents.

However, the rider, the female  passenger and two others suffered severe burns and have been admitted at a nearby private hospital for treatment.

Following the fire outbreak, the police have raise alarm over the incessant cases of fire outbreak in the state, it therefore, advised residents to stop careless handling of petroleum products.

The command spokesperson,Patricia Amadin said: “There has been a high rate of fire incidents in Lagos State, arising from carelessness and mishandling of petroleum products through black marketeering and mass storage at homes due to perceived scarcity;The Command therefore appeals to members of the public to be mindful of how they handle petroleum products, stop mass storage of the product in their homes. Motorists, especially Tanker Drivers are equally admonished to observe traffic rules and speed limits to avoid such occurrences.”
