Thousands Of PDP Members Defect To APGA

Thousands of aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday, August 6, dumped the party for the All Progressives Grand Alliance as the party inaugurated its new executive members.

Prominent among those that defected are former members of the state House of Assembly who represented their constituencies on the platform of the PDP as well as state chairman of Labour Party, Daily Independent reports.

They are Uchenna Umeris who represented Dunukofia state constituency, Hon. Tokas Ohazurike who represented Ihiala I state constituency and the LP chairman Mr. Ugochukwu Nwimo. The defectors explained that they left PDP because APGA is closer to the people. They expressed optimism that Anambra state governor, Willie Obiano would help take the party to greater height.

One of the defectors, Umerie said there is visible evidence of Obiano’s performance which had proved that the state governor manage resources well. He pointed out that while other state governors were waiting for bailout from federal government, Obaino maintained 25th of every month as workers’ pay date.

Other defectors attributed the reasons for their defection to the current instability and troubles in the party, adding that they wanted a peaceful party. A woman leader, Cordelis Onuimo said they were tired of intra-party squabbles and wanted a change.
