Violence Trails NURTW Election In Abuja
The newly reelected national president of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Najeem Yasin has dissolved the executive council of the union in the 36 states of the Federation.
The new president announced the dissolution immediately he was sworn in for second term in office at the International Conference Centre (ICC) Abuja.
Members and non members of NURTW from Lagos chapter were at the event to rejoice with the newly reelected Yasin.
The event however turned violent when some hoodlums allegedly of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction of the NURTW attempted to attack the treasurer of the Lagos State chapter of the body, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya AKA MC calling him the godson of an APC chieftain in Lagos.

Akinsanya was however rescued by senior members of the union in Lagos. Those who rescued him are one Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle, Alhaji Seriki Tokunbo and Kehinde Daudu.
According to Kehinde Daudu, “Everything went well at the delegate conference. We have finished with the conference and our newly reelected president Alhaji Yasin has dissolved state executives. Some people wanted to attack our man, Alhaji Akinsanya but we prevented it. They were calling him a thief. Our advise to the executive governor of Lagos State is that he should intervene and prevail on the national president to do the needful so that he can peace can reign in Lagos because we don’t want violence in Lagos.”
“Governor Ambode should investigate the violence and also prevail on the president to come and inaugurate a caretaker committee for the Lagos State council in order to avert violence.”
Meanwhile, Babaloja of Aswani market in Isolo, Lagos state, Alhaji Taoridi Faronbi, has called on Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to review the ban on the operation of okada riders in Lagos communities.
