The Nigeria police force, Lagos command, is set to swoop on touts in and around motor parks in the state any moment from now.

According to our source, the state commissioner of police, Fatai Owoseni, recently summoned leaders of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to his office to intimate them of his men’s readiness to chase touts off Lagos motor parks and bus stops.

A top official of NURTW who was at the meeting told our correspondent under condition of anonymity that the Lagos police boss was irked by the excesses of touts.

Apart from battering commercial mini – bus drivers and their bus assistants, touts forcefully collect un-receipted money from drivers in every motor park and bus stops.

Their activities led to their proscription, in 1999, when former military administrator, Colonel Mohammed Baba Marwa, jailed the adamant ones who refused to quit the parks.

Similarly, former governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, outlawed collection of money in the motor parks and prescribed jail term for offenders, under his new Lagos traffic law.

However, the law made an impact for a few weeks after which it was business as usual for the touts popularly called agberos.

In fact, commercial motorcyclist (okada riders) and tricycle operators were annexed by touts who must pay their exorbitant charges.
