Missing Bauchi Aircraft: EFCC Goes After Former Governor

Former governor of Bauchi state, Isa Yuguda has been reportedly invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for questioning over alleged disappearance of a state owned aircraft.

This was disclosed by a reliable source at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, Daily Trust reports.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said his invitation was in relation to the controversial missing Bauchi aircraft adding, “That’s all I can tell you.”

Yuguda’s former Commissioner of Information in the state, Alhaji Salisu Ahmad Barau, stated that he had no knowledge of any petition against the former governor.

According to him, it won’t be a thing of surprise if Yuguda had been invited for questioning as it was a common practice in Nigeria for former leaders to be petitioned.

“We believe that if the EFCC should invite him he will answer all the questions they will ask him to the best of his ability and by the grace of Allah they will be satisfied,” he added.

When contacted, Wilson Iwujeran, the EFCC spokesman said he was not aware of the invitation.

The aircraft recently became a subject of controversy, after the state governor, Mohammed Abubakar while giving account of his stewardship in his 100 days in office announced the .

He announced that the missing aircraft, Embraer 145 had been traced to Morrocco by the assets recovery committee he constituted to recover some property acquired by officials and associates of the last administration.

Barau, however said Governor Abubakar got his facts mixed-up as the aircraft never got missing.

A special committee set up by Governor Abubakar had earlier discovered that Yuguda gave out 64 cars to politicians, former commissioners, special advisers and top civil servants before he handed over.

Not long after, over 70 vehicles, N600 million in generators and a number of air conditioners were recovered from officials of the former governor’s administration.
