Ohaneze Raises Alarm Over APC’s Neglect Of Confab Report
The Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has through its former secretary general, Chief Nduka Eya raised concerns on Wednesday, September 16, over the neglect the All progressives Congress and the presidency have placed on the execution of the National Conference report.
According to the former scribe of the group, the erstwhile President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration had convened the confab to address multiple structural imbalance plaguing the nation, Vanguard reports.
In his admonition, Eya told President Muhammadu Buhari to adopt the outcome of the conference as an anti-corruption template stressing that the former president had vowed to ensure the enforcement of the confab report.
The Igbo chief lamented that having spent a lot of funds to call together the sovereign national conference which Nigerians had been yearning for, the ‘change’ mantra adopted by the present administration will be tantamount to nothing without the implementation of the confab report.

Eya said: “There was need as every Nigerian has identified, to sit down and discuss on how we are going to live. Most segments of the country are complaining. What brought about the Biafran war? It was inequality, unfair play and injustice.
“Some people think they own this country. These challenges were what the confab addressed. These challenges were generating a lot of mistrust among ourselves. Jonathan took the bull by the horn and was able to convoke the confab where all shades of people came together to discuss the way forward.
“A section of this country never wanted the confab because they are benefiting from the lopsidedness of the structure. The confab built a bridge over the rivers of division in this country of how this country can go on and everybody was happy.”
He added that former president Jonathan had made a vow to implement the reports from the national conference but that the APC thinks the confab was political. He said that this was the reason why the ruling party kicked against the ideas.
The chief said: “Now, we are almost six months down the line in the life of this administration and nobody is talking about it.”
He noted that the confab report is a structural reconstruction of the country towards equity, justice and fair-play and that the recommendations are what will help the president in the fight against corruption.
In line with that, Prof Akin Oyebode, the chairman of the office of international relations, partnerships and prospects, University of Lagos in an exclusive interview with Naij.com said he was not impressed when he learnt President Buhari might not implement the report of the conference. He advised President Buhari not to discard the reports and recommendations of the 2014 National Conference.
