If you do not know the man called Seun Kuti, read other controversial statements of his that you should read about.

Seun Kuti just like his father doesn't make politically correct statements.

He says things how he sees and feels. The Afrobeat philosophy of honesty has made him a mouthpiece speaking against the government, religion, the Nigerian society and marriage.

In his latest headline grabbing statement, the musician says an automatic curse will come on anyone who supports Nigerian politicians on trail for corruption.

Happy reading.

  1. Legalization of marijuana- On September 1, Seun Kuti said that the Federal Government should legalize marijuana. According to him "We as Africans had no reason to ban marijuana. It was done out of the U.S. lobby, forcing our governments to ban the drug. I don’t think that the Nigerian government has ever carried out any independent research on marijuana. One of the biggest markets in the world for marijuana in the world is Israel (which is a more religious country than Nigeria). But they understand the benefits… especially the economic benefits. So much wealth can be generated from it, but that is another issue entirely.

  2. Defends Oba of Lagos' anti-Igbo statement- In April 2015 Seun Kuti defended Oba Rilwan's inflammatory statement against Igbos in the state. Seun Kuti first defended the Oba of Lagos but when the audio recording of the King making the statement came out, he swiftly apologized.

  3. Throws sub at MTV Base - Seun Kuti is not afraid to take shots at anybody even institutions. In March he took a swipe at MTV Base for not supporting his music. "I guess they needed us to believe they were really about African music. Credibility matters" he wrote.

  4. Happy Beyonce did not release Fela-inspired album - Pop queen Beyonce recorded a Fela-inspired album but never released it to the public. Despite Beyonce taking up Afrobeat Seun Kuti was happy the album did not see the light of the day. He expressed his opinion about this. Most artistes are afraid to take on Beyonce, not Seun Kuti though.

  5. He does not believe in marriage- Well this should not come as a surprise really but still it caused quite a ripple since Seun Kuti has a baby mama and daughter. "I am not married now because I don’t believe in marriage as an institution but I am even more tired of those that use it to destroy the mentality of their own children" said the musician.
