Only a third of students seeking admissions into tertiary institutions in Nigeria will get admitted for the 2015/2015 academic session because of lack of spaces.

Only a third of students seeking admissions into tertiary institutions in Nigeria will get admitted for the 2015/2015 academic session because of lack of spaces.

The Vice Chancellor Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMinna), Professor Musbau Adewumi Akanji, said this while signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the university and Training Guide International (TGI).

Akanji said the combined carrying capacity of Nigerian universities is not enough to reach all prospective students.

“This year about 1.4 million Nigerian children applied for admission and the admission capacity of all the universities in the country is less than 500,000 meaning that about one million would not be able to achieve their desire of entry into the university this year," Akanji said.

Student Pulse gathered that the MoU between FUTMINNA and TGI will help Nigerian students pursue international degrees abroad at reduced cost.
