Going through life with a low self esteem will no doubt negatively impact the quality of life you can have. People with low self esteem usually have low confidence and they do not believe in their worth.

They are often very shy and find it difficult to cope in social situations. If this sounds like you, do not give up hope. Here are simple tips that should help give you a bit more confidence.

Find the root cause: There is usually something that triggers low self esteem issues in a person. This could be due to terrible childhood experience (when a child grows up without love and security) or due to life experiences as an adult (such as a bad relationship). It is always important to know what caused you to stop believing in yourself, as you will not get very far if you don’t.

Focus on your achievement: it is easy, when you have a lot of self doubt, for you to believe that you have no achievement worth being proud of. But you need to remember that not everything has to be completely negative. There are impressive things in your life that you have done and they should be at the forefront of your mind. Focus on your achievement so you can remind yourself that you are capable of more than you think.

Step out of your comfort zone. As a person with low self esteem issues, it gets easy to take comfort in doing the same things and going to the same places everyday. You are comforted by routine and you do not do well when plans change. One way to battle your issues is force yourself to do something different from time to time. If you try new things and have positive experiences, it would do a lot to boost your confidence.

Talk to someone: Finding someone who encourages you, sees the best in you and stands by you is a great way to battle low self esteem. Find people in your life who truly care about you and open up to them. Let them in on your fears and insecurity and let their words of encouragement inspire you.

Accept your past: Before you can proceed into a future of confidence, you need to let go of your past. Accept whatever caused you to doubt yourself, forgive those that treated you unfairly as this is the only way to truly move on. Accept that you are no longer the person you were yesterday and you do no not need to hold the same grudges.

It takes time: As you begin this journey of self acceptance, you need to know that it takes time and patience to get to where you need to be. Be prepared to face some setbacks but never feel discouraged. Keep encouraging yourself with positive affirmations and remind yourself that no one is truly worthless.
