Exclusive: Area Boys Attack Yinka Ayefele In Ondo, What They Did To Him Is Shocking

Gospel Tungba singer Yinka Ayefele was attacked over the weekend in Ondo state by area boys over ‘traditional fee cut’ always given to them by artists.

Ayefele was attacked by area boys over not parting with some of the performance fee he charged to perform at a burial in Ijare a suburb of Akure in Ondo state.

On Saturday, October 3, Ayefele performed at the burial of 85-year-old Madam Ebunoluwa Lydia Odumakinde. It was said that he charged N3 million to perform at the burial.

It is no news in Nigeria that street urchins popularly known as “area boys” always want artists to part with a percentage of their performance fee to them and the same was expected of Ayefele and because he did not give them as much as they expected, he was attacked.

The rumour mill has it that about 15 people were injured in the attack some of them Ayefele band members.

Naij.com spoke with Ayefele’s manager David Ajiboye and he spoke about the incident.

Ajiboye confirmed the attack but has a different version of the story being syndicated in town.

According to him: “Area boys came to Ayefele while performing on stage to ask for money and he promised to give them after his performance, immediately he got off stage Ayefele gave them N100,000. Few minutes later another batch of area boys came to ask for their cut saying those that came earlier are not their member and he parted with another N100,000 only for a third batch to come and ask for their own share and this time around they demanded for a whopping N500,000 that Ayefele turned down.”

On the attack rumour Ajiboye said: “In their annoyance the third batch of area boys gathered and attacked Ayefele vehicle when he was leaving the town. His Ford Explorer 2015 in which he was traveling in got damaged and his equipment truck.”

And the injured? Ajiboye explained that “None of Yinka Ayefele’s band member were injured it was just those two vehicles that were spoilt. Ayefele has mobile police escort quite alright but nobody was attacked by our escort. If there is anybody injured then maybe the hoodlums. Our escort did not make use of the gun at all.”

And some of the equipment used at the burial of Madam Ebunoluwa Lydia Odumakinde in Ijare were part of the customized ones he recently acquired in August 2015.

Meanwhile, Ayefele is currently in Ekiti state on the invitation of the governor, Ayodele Fayose in order to perform at the “World Teacher’s Day”, on Monday, October 5, in the state.

As part of celebrating his staffs, Governor Fayose decided to give the state teachers a treat by inviting Ayefele to perform at the get-together he is putting together for the teachers.
