What Dissmissed Army General Ransome-Kuti Stands To Lose

The Nigerian army last Thursday dismissed a brigadier general Enitan Ransome-Kuti for failure to perform duties assigned to him.

A retired army major who spoke to Naij.com on anonymity said the dismissed general would not be entitled to a gratuity or pension from the Nigerian army.

He said the general’s over 30 years of service in the military was all wasted.

“More importantly, (he is) not permitted to use his rank ever again,” the retired major said.

The Nigerian army while confirming the dismissal of Ransome-Kuti said the first count charge on “cowardly behaviour” against the general was struck out.

The army spokesperson Sani Usman had said that Ransome-Kuti was however found guilty on charge two – failure to perform military duties and was further dismissed from the Nigerian army.

Usman added that the general was also found guilty of charge number 3, miscellaneous offences relating to service property which bagged him six months imprisonment.

The general was dismissed and and jailed for six months by an army court martial for offenses he committed during the was against Boko Haram in Baga, a populous market community in Borno state.

As at the time, Ransome-Kuti served as the commander of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), his sins included his inability to take responsibility of weapons and ammunition under his supervision.

His dismissal from the army comes irrespective of the army chief, Tukur Buratai’s directive that all cases against soldiers and officers in the fight against terrorism should be reviewed.
