Food poisoning: There is a speculation that the late Audu did not die of natural cause, but food poisoning. He was said to have continually vomited blood before he finally gave up the ghost.
“I spoke with someone in late Prince Audu’s family. The person told me that the former governor repeatedly vomited blood. The family tried to rush him to the hospital but he died in the process. There is speculation of food poison or spiritual attack but no one can say for now. But his family confided in me that blood kept gushing out from his mouth,” a newsman who spoke with one of the relatives of the deceased said.
Hypertension: Following the death of the APC chieftain, a family member, who did not want to be named, disclosed that Audu had been battling hypertension even before the campaign.

The sources who described the late politician as hypertensive said he started vomiting blood after he returned from Lokoja. He said that Audu woke up very tired on Saturday, the day of the governorship election and that doctors had given the former governor blood transfusion which gave him enough energy to go to the polling booth to vote in his hometown, Ogbonicha. He however returned home on Saturday and began vomiting all over again.
“After a while he became unconscious and died around 5 a.m. on Sunday morning,” said the source, who requested anonymity.
Failing health condition: The sudden death of the APC chieftain have also propped out suggestions that the politician might have died of complications from some other serious medical condition which have not been disclosed.
“His death is not sudden, though some may think so; but he just managed to pull through the campaign. He had been sick for some time.” A close associate of the deceased who spoke on anonymity said.
Adding that: “While travelling home on Friday for the Saturday election, Prince Audu complained of serious body pains and fever. He instructed his driver to park on the road and bought a bottle of water. The sickness deteriorated and he was ‘packaged’ to vote because he could hardly stand up.”
The above statements appear to buttress the unverified claims that he may have died of some other serious health condition. However, it should be noted that the family of the deceased have not officially made any statement regarding the cause of death, such should be left for experts to prove.
Audu was a former governor of Kogi who was accused of stealing billions of naira from the state’s treasury. Audu will be buried today according to Islamic rites in his hometown.
May his soul rest in perfect peace!
