Reports have confirmed that former Minister of Education, Dr Igwe Aja-Nwachukwu has passed on at the age of 63.
He died while receiving treatment at a hospital in Israel.
The former minister’s younger brother, Festus Aja-Nwachukwu, confirmed the death on Wednesday in Abuja. Dr. Igwe reportedly died on the 17th of November.
The late Aja-Nwachukwu, who served under the administration of President Umaru Yar’Adua was receiving treatment at the hospital about 4 weeks before he passed on.
Festus explained that he could not disclose the cause his brother's death until the death certificate was issued by the hospital. He also added that burial arrangement will be communicated in due course.
Aja-Nwachuku, a native of Okposi in Ebonyi, was born in 1952 and appointed minister of education in 2007. His father was Nigeria’s first minister of education.
He graduated from the University of Ibadan with a Bachelor’s Degree in statistics.
He also had an MBA in Finance, MSc in Statistics and Ph.D in Economics.
