AFCON 2015: Coach Siasia Addresses Dream Team’s Defensive Errors

Dream Team coach Samson Siasia has assured Nigerians that his charges has sorted out their defensive errors.

Nigeria plays Senegal later today in the semi-final of the ongoing  U-23 African Nations cup which serves as the qualifiers for the 2016 Olympics.

 Nigeria conceded two goals each in the games against Mali and Egypt after scoring three and two goals first in both games respectively.

The former Super Eagles coach said his side’s defensive shortcoming have been sorted because of the goalless draw with Algeria in the final group stages.

Africanfootball.com reports the coach saying: “We have learnt our lessons. Two games in which the first half looked good and the last half didn’t. We made our corrections and you can see from how we played in the last game.

“We are not going back home empty –handed; it’s no retreat, no surrender. We have to get ourselves ready for tomorrow’s game (semi-final vs Senegal); it’s going to be a difficult one. It’s going to be eleven players against eleven, so we have our chances to qualify.”

Captain Azubuike Okechukwu will be missing through injury and the trainer has urged anyone coming into the team to replace the skipper to step up in his place.

He said: “We would have loved to have Azubuike because he is the captain and a big motivator, and you have to have a leader on the field. But he’s suspended, so we have to live with that. There is no need crying over spilt milk. 

“In life, you always have to make adjustments in several areas. Azubuike’s absence will give another player the opportunity to prove himself.”

The on-going U-23 African Nations Cup serves as the qualifiers for next year’s 2016 Olympics with the top three teams grabbing African tickets.

The Flying Eagles face Senegal in the semi-final to be played on Wednesday, December 8th.
