Diary Of A Jambite: Read What Cultists Did To Me During My First Encounter With Them (I)

From last

After Bisi had excused herself from my side and had left me to the mercy of the campus ‘big boys’, I was almost left for dead because I was already sweating.

The guys, all showing signs that I might have hurt their ego buy trying to be evasive, called me and asked me to follow them. Without hesitating further, I went with them.

When we got to the back of the urban and regional planning department, one of them, who looked like the orator, asked me what my name was, what I was doing with the lady (Bisi) and when I got on campus.

“Where exactly do I star from?” I asked myself.

“Well, if you know what is best for you, just pick the answers from the very last one and take it up from there,” another voice told me.

After what seemed to my ‘abductors’ as forever, I responded: “I have only spent two days on campus and I am yet to do my registration because the course adviser has not been around for two consecutive days.

“I am in the Hotel and Catering Department and that girl is a colleague who has been helping me with the registration stuff. In fact, she came to ask me whether I had seen the course adviser today. I was just coming from a meeting with Mr Tunde, our Geography lecturer when you guys asked me to come around.

“I have no business with the girl, it’s not even as if I know anything about her other than her name and I do not really know anyone else in this school. I just hope that the registration stuff would be concluded before this weeks ends because I have been told that the registration would end soon.”

My explanation would have continued but for the interruption by the guys who were by now reeling with laughter with my non-stop rantings.

It was apparently ‘an expression of a frustrated jambite’ as I could not stop talking about all that I had experienced in a space of 48 hours.

“You must have been through a lot, young man,” the obvious ‘spokesperson’ for the group said.

“We are just a group of young guys who like to enjoy life on campus, we did not mean to scare or hurt you. But in case you run into any trouble, just locate us and let us know what you need,” the lanky fellow added.

With those words, it looked as if a heavy burden had been taken off me as I kept wondering what I had done to deserve the treatment meted out on me by the purported ‘bad guys’.

“Thank you very much, bros,” I muttered as I made to leave the young men.

“Wait!” one of them called at me. “

“The girl you mentioned in your confession, since you said there is nothing between both of you, in your own interest, make sure nothing comes up between both of you,” he added.

I quickly replied him, saying: “That cannot be an issue, in fact, I will try my best not to greet her if that is what you want.”

With those words, I heaved a huge sigh of relief as I made for the department which was just about two buildings away.

Many thoughts quickly cropped up in my mind. “Are these guys really the cult guys people always talk about with trepidation? Or are they just scammers? Is there a possibility that my mother’s prayers worked in my favour? What if Bisi refuses to leave me?”

Well… it was a day with mixed feelings for me.

The most important question on my mind cut me in two; who do I prioritise now? Mr Tunde? Bisi? Or my newly-found friends on campus?

To be continued next week…

PS: Note that this is a combination of reality and fiction; the writer’s experience and a little bit of fiction based on the writer’s imaginations.
