Minister Condemns State Of Equipment At Abuja Stadium
Solomon Dalung, the Minister for Youth and Sports Development, has lamented the deplorable state of medical facilities and equipment at the Abuja National Stadium.
Punch reports that a close aide to the minister disclosed that Dalung was not happy to find that equipment worth more than N280m, imported over a year ago were wasting away at the stadium.

Equipment like HP Cosmos testing treadmill, antigravity treadmill, body composition analysers, ice making machines, boxes of dumb bells and dumb bell racks, body sculptors and muscle toners are all said to be rotting away at the stadium.
Others are selector chest press, digital lean machines, steppers, cones, gymnastic mats, some of which weigh up to 1000kg.
Dalung demanded explanation on why the equipment were not mounted for use.
“Why will the Sports ministry buy such expensive machines and allow it to waste? So you people are now experts in importation and dumping?” he asked.
In a swift, Abdulkadir Muazu the director, Sports Medicine, Ministry of Sports, explained that there was no space to mount such heavy duty equipment.
He said: “This building cannot take the entire equipment when installed and we need the center to be close to the athletes when they need treatment.
“So it has to be located close to the stadium but we don’t have the space for it. Moreover, the equipment can only be installed by the suppliers and the one year warranty for such services has already elapsed.”
