New Beginnings: National Theatre set to undergo major restructuring
According to the Director General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), the project would serve as ventilation for the city.
After years of near relegation, the National Theatre Iganmu is set to wear a new look as plans are in place to develop the 65-hectare facility into an international tourism destination.
According to the Director General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), Mr. Aminu Diko, all issues relating to the concession have reached an advanced stage with a preferred bidder - Topwide/Apeas.
He added that other buildings would also be developed on the wide expanse of land to generate income and create jobs under a PPP arrangement that is mutually beneficial.
Describing the concession as ventilation for the city, Diko said the project aimed to create wealth and jobs.
According to him, "part of the new buildings would be a multi-story car park, a five-star hotel and a total renovation of the National Arts Theatre. The National Theatre will be renovated and returned to its former state."
He further said the destination would be called the Nigerian Entertainment City.
