Former Newcastle United goalkeeper, Pavel Srnicek suffers heart attack

The 47-year-old played for Newcastle United between 1991- 1998 and also featured for West Ham later on in his career.

Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek has suffered a heart attack and is in critical condition in the hospital.

The 47-year-old former Czech international played for Newcastle United between 1991- 1998 and also featured for West Ham later on in his career.

He returned to St James' Park for a second spell in 2006 and remains a fan favourite.

He collapsed while running in the town of Bohumin, in Cech where he is from.

According to reports from Czech, Srnicek is currently fighting for his life and has been placed in induced coma at the Ostrava-Poruba Hospital.

Pavel was running last night and his heart stopped. He was like that for 20 minutes. He was rushed to hospital and is in an induced coma until Wednesday,” his agent Steve Wraith, tweeted.

Then they will see if his heart is stronger and if so bring him out of the coma. No-one knows if his brain has been starved of oxygen.”

The hospital confirmed his agent’s tweet but could not give further details.

He was back in Newcastle’s home of Tyneside last week to promote his new autobiography.
