From inventions to tragic accidents, from accomplishments to campus crisis, education related issues found ways to make the headlines this year.

Kenya University Attack

Perhaps, one of the biggest University news this year was the attack on a Kenyan University in April. Somali militants reportedly killed nearly 150 students, mostly Christians at the Garissa University College, Garrissa, Kenya.

 

 

UNILAG Student Electrocuted To Death

A female students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Oluchi Anekwe was electrocuted on her way to her room in Sodeinde Residence, New Hall on the campus in September.

 

 

Nigerian Man Deceived, Confused British Media

Dr. Opeyemi Enoch of Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State was hailed by British media as the Nigerian math genius who solved a 156-year-old math problem (The Riemann Hypothesis), only for it to turn out later, that Enoch might have faked it.

 

 

Rejected by ABU, KASU, Nigerian Student Builds Artificial Intelligence Robot In Ukraine University

A 24-year-old Nigerian Software Engineering student, Bobai Ephraim Kato, built a functional Artificial Intelligence robot as his final year project at the International College of Business and Technology (ICBT), Sri Lanka. He went to study in Ukraine after Nigerian Universities rejected him.

 

 

UNIZIK Students Build Made-for-Nigeria Vehicles

Two graduating students teams from  the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of Nnamdi Azikiwe, constructed vehicles; a bus and an electric motorcycle.

 

 

The Tragic Death of UNIPORT's Kelechi Precious

A 200 level student of Theater Arts at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Kelechi Ndulagwua Precious, died at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), Alakahia, Port Harcourt. She reportedly died as a result of negligence from the nurses and doctors at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.

 

 

Young Talented Boy Builds Aeroplane In Enugu

A young but talented boy from Enugu state has constructed an aeroplane with the help of locally sourced materials. Although the mini airplane has no engine, it looks like a real jet and even can contain two or three passengers.

 

 

OAU Students Invent Chicken De-feathering Machine

Two Mechanical Engineering graduates of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Adedoyin Adebodun Adeleke and Oyenuga Adekitan Abimbola, made the fastest known electrically-operated chicken de-feathering machine.

 

 

University of Ibadan Takes 8th Position in The African Universities Rankings

Nigerian varsity, University of Ibadan, made it to the list of top Universities in Africa.

 

 

2 Lovers Found Dead In University Hostel

Two students of a university in Anambra state were reportedly found dead in a hostel room located not far from the school. They were reported to have died after having sex and their neighbours had no idea about their deaths until their bodies started decomposing.
