SEE How A Popular Church Is Touching Lives This Christmas (PHOTOS)
While most Lagosians were busy enjoying a sunny Saturday afternoon, a popular church in Lekki decided to celebrate the Saturday before x-mas in a special way.
The popular Church of Ascension in Badore, Ajah continued its yearly tradition of reaching out to the poor through its Health and Care ministry.
Aside the traditional sharing of gifts, the church also brought in speakers to preach to the people available, representatives of First Bank of Nigeria to speak on the need to save money and health workers to check people’s malaria and HIV status.
Speaking to Naij.com, the secretary of the health and care department Barrister Miriam Ekweme noted that the program was intended to “bridge the gap between the society and the poor”.
She added: “The church is the face of humanity, the face of kindness, the face of hope and that is what led to this ministry”.
The Barrister further added that the ministry was doing much more than just giving children and mothers gifts and food items to fill their bellies.

She said: “The way we have packaged out programmes, you see that we gave enlightenment and encouragement programmes. We invited representatives of the first bank, we had another lady who came to give talks to to inspire the people who were present here.
“We are not just giving them food, we are giving them life seminars, to teach them how to live right, take care of themselves and also know how to make and save money to take care of the church.
“We also have food for the soul where the curate or the speaker talks to people. We are not just giving them fish, we are teaching them how to fish”.
