Anti-Corruption War: Former Governor Lands In ICPC Trouble
The former governor of Zamfara state, Senator Ahmed Sanni Yerima has been arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on an 18 count charge over corruption and use of public fund to enrich himself.
Sahara Reporters reports that the former governor will be arraigned today, Wednesday, January 20 at the high court in Gusau, he capital of Zamfara.
In the charges filed against the senator, the ICPC accused Yerima of embezzling money during his capacity as governor.

Out of the additional budgetary allocation to Zamfara State House of Assembly to the tune of One billion Naira, Yerima was accused of spending money meant for the repair of a collapsed Gusau dam and settlement of the victims of the dam and that the money was gotten through bank loan in November 2006. The charges are punishable under section 22 (5) of the corrupt practices and other related offences Act 2000.
Also among the charges, Yerima was accused of spending N43,008,000 purportedly on surveillance of guests.
Yerima was also accused of spending N64,332,734 purportedly on sponsorship of government officials to hajj
The senator holds the distinction of being the first governor in Nigeria to implement Sharia law in his state in its full entirety, a move that sparked negative reactions especially from Christians in the country.
